Success at the Scottish Open 2019

Blake Collins successfully defended his middleweight crown at the IKKU Open event. Scoring with a very sharp uchi haisoku geri for a ippon in the semi final. He took the final on unanimous decision in a tough bout.

Malcolm Scott cruised to victory in the mens heavyweight veterans category winning all three fights in quick fashion.

U18 Robert Salvi lost in the final to his nemesis Harry Clemo of Sandwich on a judges decision.

Sara Hagge from Sweden and Jessica Charsley Verwood who train with the CKK fight team both fought well coming 2nd and 1st respectively.

Dojo Success at the IKK National Championships

The dojo had strong performances in the IKK National Championships that featured competitors from IKK, IKKU, Chikara International, Welsh Karate Kyokushinkai, Kyokushin Budo Shakai, Nakmas and Tsuyoi Ryu.

Robert Salvi secured back to back titles in a dominate display this weekend winning his first bout by jodan mawashi geri and an unanimous decision in the final.

Mia Hawkins took her first full contact crown stopping her first opponent with jodan mawashi geri and then in the final scoring with another jodan mawashi before giving ippon with a punch to the body.

Elvin Vaskys won his first bout by ippon to the body and then in a thrilling see-saw final, he got ahead with a jodan mawashi to the head but his opponent Louis Sorge came back strongly scoring to waza ari with body punches.

Veteran Dave Martin unfortunately had to retire hurt when he was hit on a previous injury and his opponent was a deserved champion.

Crawley Girls Retain Their British Titles

Olivia Pickthall and Bethany Salvi won novice titles at the 42nd British Open at K2, Cralwey last weekend and cadet Robert Salvi came of age with a great performance in the Heavyweight Boys section taking 2nd place against much heavier opponents.

Bart Procter unfortunately lost his first fight and was feeling the effects of a cold whilst in the Cup of Europe Gabriel Barbu lost out to the Lithuanian winner in his opening bout and Blake Collins went out in the last sixreen against his Romanian opponent.

Team and Individual Success at the British Clicker Championships

Crawley took both Junior Team national titles at the weekend with some great performances from our U16 section. The +155cm team of Bart Procter, Mikolaj Zabawa, Mia Hawkins and John Cross defeated Docklands, Wimbledon and Loughborough before having a tough but successful final with Cardiff.

In the -155cm teams Charlie Lee, Charlie Denton, Ashley Black and Elvin Vaskeys were also victorious defeating Mountain Ash A, Westcroft A and Cardiff once again in the final.

In the Individuals Mia Hawkins took the low grade girl gold in her first British championships. Bart Procter came 2nd in the +155cm Boys and both Charlie Denton and Ashley Black came joint 3rd in the -155cm boys.

Bethany Salvi also took 3rd in the womans low grade.

Elvin and Mikolaj both made the quarter finals and it was also great experience for John Cross, Charlie Lee and Andre Loison Brito who were competing in their first major event.

 

 

 

Juniors perform well at the IFK Belgium Youth Championships

Denis aged 12, Bethany 17, Amedeo 16 and Bart 15 years old

Well done to our youth fighters who took part in the Belgium Youth event last week in Antwerp. With participants from seven different countries the students representing England had great success.

Bart Proctor became U16 champion dominating his weight category winning all four fights comfortably. Denis Sorokins also became champion in the U13 section avenging a loss against his last opponent.

Bethany Salvi took 2nd place in the U18 category and Ame Sorge finished 3rd after having to withdraw with an eye injury from an illegal technique.

Robert Salvi also came 4th after fighting in a category with fighter of a much higher experience. 

Both the England and Wales teams took a selection of trophies from this highly successful event.

 

Crawley win three national titles at the 41st British Open

The club had a great performance from our young fighters at the British Open 2017, K2 Crawley this weekend.

U18 Lightweight Boy Ame Sorge took first in his category with a selection of knockdowns to win all four fights in his first time at the cadet age level.

U18 Girls Heavyweight Bethany Salvi retained her title win an aggressive display of punching.

Olivia Pickthall moved up into the Novice adult section and scored ippon with a punch to take her first senior crown.

In the International event featuring 17 countries, all three Crawley fighters Blake Collins, Dawid Ozga and Gabriel Barbu won their first bouts before losing to seeded fighters.

41st British Open 9th Cup of Europe

One week to go until our fighters participate in the championships at K2 Sportscentre in Crawley.

Olivia Pickthall Novice Womens LW, Bethany Salvi Cadet Girls HW and Amedo Sorge Cadet Boys LW will be performing from 10am so make sure you get your tickets and don’t be late.

Then in the Cup of Europe Blake Collins, Dawid Ozga Mens MW, Gabriel Barbu Mens HW and our Dutch fighter representing the club Rober Broeders in MW will compete in the international event featuring 17 countries.

This years interclub had approximately sixty children from Loughborough, Westhill, Hastings, Eastbourne, Saffron Walden, Westcroft, Crystal Palace, Dunmow and Crawley.

Once again it was a tremendous success with thanks going to all the officials, dojo operators, parents and of course children for taking part.

Also thanks to all the helpers Paul Beach (BBQ), Alyse Madeley , April and Keith Mays (Tea’s and Raffle), Sarah Collins (First Aid) and Anton Verity and his grandson Charlie Lee for set up(cutting the grass and dojo lighting). Lastly everyone who donated to the raffle. Thank you.

Two Champions at the Welsh Open 2017

Crawley dojo had two successes at the Welsh Open Knockdown Championships in Newport yesterday.

Senpai Blake Collins took his first Open Middleweight title by beating Sami Mehio of Hastings/Bexhill 4-0 in the final. Sami started strongly scoring with heavy low kicks but once Blake put pressure on his opponent he assumed control and was getting through with heavy combinations at the finish.

Minutes later Senpai Gabriel Barbu added the Open Heavyweight title with a Waza ippon with punch to also secure the fastest Knockout of 1minute 7 seconds.
